Officials with the Department of Defense’s recently announced that their new electronic health record, known as MHS GENESIS, has replaced the Tricare Online (TOL) Patient Portal, and as of April 1, 2025, the TOL Patient Portal is being decommissioned.
In a statement published online, officials encouraged people who want copies of their health records to download them before the decommissioning.1 The statement also touted the benefit of the MHS GENESIS system, noting that it enables around-the-clock access to the electronic health record, as well as giving patients the ability to book and cancel appointments, request prescriptions, exchange secure messages with physicians, and review clinical notes and test results.
To keep copies of legacy health records, patients are encouraged to visit www.TRICARE.mil and sign in using their DS Logon, CAC, or DFAS myPay credentials. Patients who do not have a DS Logon, will need to create one by clicking “Need An Account,” clicking on the blue “Health Record” button to view personal health data; selecting “Download My Data,” and then customize by person’s information, date range, etc.
The statement notes that the health records only reflect periods of time during military hospital or clinic use or when the patient was using TOL, and that records can only be downloaded from the past three decades.
Pediatric data are also available, and access to COVID-19 and influenza test results, as well as allergy and immunization data, will be available for children aged 12 to 17.
